When did you do the IDA master?
2022-2024
How was the IDA Master helpful for what you are doing right now?
The program prepared me well for my role as a PhD candidate in the Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology at Tilburg University. It provided me with the knowledge and essential skills to work independently and effectively as a researcher.
What was your favorite course? And why?
It’s hard to pick just one favorite course because I enjoyed so many throughout the two years. However, I’d say my favorite was the master thesis, as it allowed me to explore my own research idea and gain valuable experience conducting an independent research project.
What was your favorite moment of the time as an IDA student?
My favorite moments as an IDA student were the end-of-year drinks in 2023 and 2024. Those gatherings were special, as all of us classmates, along with our program director Yvonne, came together to relax and have fun after working hard throughout the year.
What was your motivation to finish your studies ?
My motivation to complete my studies was the opportunity to deepen my understanding of the field and to build a strong foundation for a future career in academia.
Did you experience stress or pressure in your studies, and if yes how did you deal with it?
Yes, I did experience stress at times during my studies, mainly due to the heavy workload. Fortunately, I was able to open up about it with my classmates and supervisors, which helped me manage the pressure and stay focused.
What can you advise current or future IDA students?
My advice to current or future IDA students would be to “know thyself.” Each of us is unique, just like how the program focuses on “individual differences.” I hope you can discover your passion and strengths in research, so that you can truly enjoy the entire “growing process” along the way.
How was your overall experience in the master?
My overall experience in the master’s program was challenging, but I enjoyed every part of it.
What did you do in your international traineeship and how did you like it?
For my international traineeship, I chose to attend the European Conference on Personality (ECP) in Berlin, as its content was highly relevant to my research interests in Personality and related constructs. It was a wonderful experience that allowed me to expand my understanding of the latest research and emerging trends in the field. Additionally, I had the opportunity to engage with researchers from around the world, build professional connections, and gain practical experience in scientific communication.
Are you still in touch with other alumni students?
Oh yes, we stay in touch and meet up quite often. Many of us are still here, working on our own PhD projects at Tilburg University, so we chat regularly and support each other.
How did you experience the relationship with your teachers?
My teachers were always open to my ideas and provided great support throughout my studies. I never felt any distance between students and teachers in our class; they were always happy to answer questions and offer valuable feedback.
Did you know from the beginning what you want to do after your master? How did you find out what you would like to do?
I had no idea what I wanted to do at the beginning. However, during my second traineeship, I became motivated to pursue my own research idea while working closely with my supervisor. I discovered that I had a much stronger interest in research than I had realized, which led me to decide to pursue my current PhD project after completing the IDA program.
