The First Year Paper course consists of writing a research paper in the area of individual differences and assessment. During this course, students learn to apply the knowledge from the first semester courses (including theoretical models, physiological assessments, multilevel model analysis) obtained during the first semester courses, to identify a research question, review literature, analyze data, and write a concise and coherent paper.
The First Year Paper starts with the Knowledge Fair, which aims to match students to IDA staff members who will individually supervise students in writing their First Year Paper. The First Year Paper is written based on an existing dataset of one of the research projects of IDA staff members.
The First Year Paper course is concluded by the End of Year Conference, during which the students give a short presentation of their paper to second-year students, IDA alumni & staff, and future first-year students.
