When did you do the IDA master?

2022-24

How was the IDA Master helpful for what you are doing right now?

I’m doing a PhD currently and I think IDA is perfectly catered to that. I learnt both the statistical knowledge and soft research skills to pursue a PhD.

What was your favorite course? And why?

Structural Equation Modeling. I was not a fan of statistics before IDA but I found a passion for it here. I really loved this course- it was a perfect balance of prior knowledge and learning new things for me as I had used structural equation models before but did not understand the theoretical aspects of it.
Of course, I enjoyed my thesis the most but I don’t think that counts as a course…

What was your favorite moment of the time as an IDA student?

All the casual moments with friends, peers and professors- the barebecue, the drinks after events and the christmas mingles. However graduation and the satisfying feeling of completing this programme tops that.

Did you experience stress or pressure in your studies, and if yes how did you deal with it?

Lots of hangouts with friends, leaning on them for support and venting out frustration. Of course, we also had many group study sessions.

What can you advise current or future IDA students?

Lean into the experience of the Master and discover your interests, but don’t feel the need to overwork yourself. Good things come to average students too 🙂

How was your overall experience in the master?

Stressful but gratifying when you see how far you’ve come in just two years.

What did you do in your international traineeship and how did you like it?

I attended the European Conference on Personality with many IDA colleagues and really enjoyed sharing the experience with others and hearing about new research. I highly recommend the conference as an international traineeship.

Are you still in touch with other alumni students?

Of course, I’ve formed some very (very) close friendships here and as fresh alumni we have not made any new friends yet.

How did you experience the relationship with your teachers?

They were all very supportive and helpful with coursework but also went out of their way to help in the process of preparing for PhD applications and interviews. The close, collaborative relationships you can form with your teachers/supervisors when the cohort is so small is wonderful!
