Why did you decide to do the IDA Master?
Even though I know quite well what field I want to go into, I much appreciate the interdisciplinary approach of the IDA. I believe it helps us to look beyond our own fields and learn from each other.
What has been your favourite course and why?
I’m very much looking forward to the traineeships and first year paper. This gives us the chance to shape our own paths, and working one on one with our supervisors provides a great learning opportunity.
Do you experience stress in your studies/pressure? How do you deal with it?
Yes I do, the first semester was a lot. The programme is challenging, both in the difficulty of the materials and in the amount of work. I’m trying to prioritise a bit more, and accept it when I don’t do all the assignments to the best of my abilities when it is the best I could do in the time I had. I also talk about the pressure with my fellow students, it helps to know that it’s not just me who feels the pressure.
How can your knowledge from the IDA master be useful for the real world?
I want to apply my knowledge and skills to researching how to improve clinical interventions and understand psychopathology better.
Why do you think it is important to study what you study?
Ultimately, I’m hoping to make a difference for those with psychological problems. To this end, I’m combining this master with a master in clinical psychology.
What is the most fascinating you have learned?
I thought the network theory of personality was fascinating, but right now I’m looking into how stress affects memory and how this can be applied in exposure therapy and EMDR, which is also really cool.
What motivates you to keep studying?
To me, being able to shape my own path is very motivating. Also, I feel supported by the IDA community, and I love the challenge.
How are you experiencing the relationship to your teachers?
I feel like the teachers are here to support us and are help us learn as much as we can.
