Meet Gwen Gerla!

Why did you decide to do the IDA Master?

To broaden my knowledge and research skills, and to explore different fields to find my main interest.

Looking at the program schedule, which course excites you the most and why?

Biological correlates, because I think the interaction between psychopathology and our biological make-up is very interesting.

Do you experience stress/pressure in your studies? How do you deal with it?

I sometimes experience stress when trying to combine this master with my personal life. I deal with this by planning well and adjusting my expectations. Not every project has to be perfect, well-being is also important, not just academic success.

How can your knowledge from the IDA Master be useful for the real world?

The knowledge and research can be used for interventions for real world problems on individual levels, but it can also advise policy changes.

Why do you think it is important to study what you study?

I think it is important to improve the quality of life for everyone. To do this we need interventions that are based upon rigorous research to prevent bad consequences and misconceptions.

What is the most fascinating thing you have learned?

Thinking critically.

What motivates you to keep studying?

My interest in developing my knowledge and skills further.

How are you experiencing the relationship with your teachers?

It is nice that the interactions are so personal. It feels like they are engaged in your individual process and are always open and interested to help with this.
