What is your role/position in the IDA program?
I supervise traineeships, first year papers and the thesis.
How long have you been teaching?
Within IDA specifically since 2021, in general since 2011.
What do you like about teaching?
All the interactions, conversations, and discussions. I love it when I see students grow as independent, critical thinkers.
What is the reason you became a researcher?
I am inquisitive and continually ask ‘why’ and ‘how’? Also, the high level of independence, autonomy, and freedom is pretty amazing.
What is the most fascinating about human beings to you?
Why they forget much of the experiences they have.
Are there times where you doubt researching or university?
I think that (cartesian) doubt is a healthy emotion to experience.
What makes IDA students unique?
They are sharp-witted, eager to learn, and provide unique perspectives to issues at hand.
If you could change something in the university setting what would you change?
The university could be more inclusive and open.
What advice would you give future IDA students?
To enjoy it! Enjoy the privilege of learning and discovery.
What is a collaborative project that you liked and worked with an IDA student on?
Last year I thoroughly enjoyed supervising students for the review traineeship. They were very critical and constructive and in the end we actually submitted their written reviews to the journal.
How are you experiencing the teacher-student relationship in the IDA program?
I like how students within IDA have a strong sense of independence and eagerness (to learn).
If you are not teaching or doing research, what else do you like doing in your personal time?
Cooking, playing board games, traveling, reading books.
